The Bishop Gorman softball team has begun redirecting their focus and searching for motivation, in order to prepare for a rewarding season with a record of 0-2.
With practices starting as early as July, the ladies have been working on bonding as a team as well as overall skill. One of their biggest areas of importance is building a connection off of the field that will in turn result in better play. Outfield number 11, Tiffany Gonzales ‘26 clarified that, “All of us are doing team bonding outside of softball at someone’s house. We also make sure that each upperclassmen partners up with an underclassmen and shows them the way around our program.” This team first mindset allows the girls to stay unified as a team and family.

In recent years, the skill and talent of the team has always been clear. However, the girls explained that their team chemistry hasn’t always been there and it is greatly holding them back. This is why that is the main focus and goal of this year, especially for the upperclassman leaders.
With a packed schedule this year, the preseason practices make up the bulk of practices throughout the entire season. Third and 1st base number 16, Olivia Calloway ‘26 explained that, “In a typical practice, we do our warmups which consists of running, stretching, and our everyday picks. For pre season, we practice with all the girls and are not separated in jv and varsity. Pre-season practices are a little more “laid back” and not as fast paced.” This differs from in season practice by having the girls separate into JV and varsity as well as being more face paced.
Consistently, the biggest game for the girls is Palo Verde. With an undefeated 24-25 season and winning state, it is clear why the Gaels are looking forward to this game. Calloway expressed that, “They are one of the main teams that we work toward beating. Palo has a strong team and you can tell that they have good team chemistry. We really need to work on coming together as a team and playing as one with confidence.” This big game will take place at the G on Friday.
With a new found energy and purpose this season, the girls are confident that it will be a season to remember. “We need as much support as we can get this season, especially for the seniors. Even if we don’t make it to state this year, it will be the mentally and physically strongest team we’ve had in a while” Gonzales.
