On April 25, the Bishop Gorman Drumline performed with synchronized rhythm, precision, and power. So many dedicated students worked hard to create this incredible performance.
Drumline performer Eva Chou ‘27 states, “Going into our final performance, I was excited. We had a little bit of a rough start to our season, but over the past couple months, I saw just how much hard work and care that the entire group put into their performance. Stepping onto the stage, the only thing that I could think about was leaving it all on the floor.”
The Bishop Gorman drumline didn’t prepare overnight. They put so much practice, time, and dedication into it. “We’ve been preparing our show since November of last year. I think the most challenging part of this season was getting the entire group to the same level. We had a lot of new people join the drumline this year, so everyone’s experience levels in playing and marching were different. In the end, though, I think everyone’s hard work and discipline helped elevate this show and bring us closer together as a group,” said Cho ‘27.
Watching them, you might think it’s so easy, but people don’t understand that it’s not. “People do not realize how serious some of these individuals take this activity. It’s more than just playing music and marching. It’s about collectively being one unit in a show,” said Caeli Santos ‘29.
While performing the drumline, performers have to stay in sync the whole time. Some may question how they do it. “You just have to stay on beat. We call in tempo or keep that beat. There are multiple drummers so we usually just follow one person,” said Arya Esguerra ‘29.
There was much technique put into play. Michael Goughan ‘29 stated, “It’s important on how you hold your balance. You also have to stand up straight, look performative, and have the correct form.”
The drumline performance showed people the group’s dedication, hard work, and talent. They are so passionate about what they do. The trip overall was a success showing how passionate and amazing they are.
