With Bishop Gorman’s May 2 prom quickly approaching, many girls are beginning one of the most anticipated — and sometimes stressful — parts of the season: finding the perfect dress.
Whether starting early or waiting until the last minute, students are searching both online and in stores, hoping to find exactly what they are looking for. For Gorman girls, the countdown has officially begun. Dress shopping has become more than just a task; it’s an experience that often includes group outings, late-night scrolling, and plenty of second opinions from friends and family.
“Finding a prom dress is a stressful process, but once you find the right one the search becomes worth it,” said Lauren Funai ‘27.
While some girls head straight to local shops, others prefer browsing large online retailers where options seem endless and trends update quickly. The benefit to in person shopping is that they often provide personalized assistance, helping girls navigate different styles to find their perfect dress.
“I personally prefer in person shopping because you can actually see how it fits and if it feels like the right choice for you,” said Angelina Rivera ‘27.
At the same time, online shopping continues to grow in popularity. Many students are turning to various websites and social media platforms to discover trending styles. The variety available online allows shoppers to explore looks that may not be available locally. However, this convenience can come with challenges, including shipping delays, unexpected sizing issues, or dresses that look different in person than they did on screen.
Despite the excitement, the process of finding the right dress can feel overwhelming. With so many choices and the pressure to find something perfect, it’s easy for stress to build. Many students recommend starting early, setting a budget, and keeping an open mind when trying on different styles.
