The Bishop Gorman High School boys golf team caps off the 2025-2026 season with a blend of proven talent and rising prospects, aiming to build on its reputation as one of Nevada’s premier programs.
The Gaels have backed up that confidence with results, finishing league play a perfect five-for-five in matches while capturing five individual medallists along the way. Their latest win at TPC Summerlin showcased their depth as senior Colby Hutton ‘26 paced the field with a 68 to earn his second individual medalist finish. The consistent performances across the lineup have helped Bishop Gorman build strong momentum heading into the postseason.
Hutton says that momentum has been building for a while. “We’ve come really close the last two years,” Hutton said. “Obviously, the goal is to win the state championship. I think this is the year we can finally get it done.”
That sense of unfinished business has shaped the team’s mindset. With a roster that’s grown more experienced, the group believes it has the maturity needed to take the next step.
“I think we’re a little bit older and more experienced than last year,” Hutton ‘26 said, “that’s going to help us hopefully win.”
Jude Allred ’28 emphasized the competitiveness within the team, noting that internal competition has helped push everyone to improve.
“We have a really deep team this year,” Allred said. “Everyone’s very competitive, and that keeps the mindset positive.”
Allred explains how important attention to detail is, explaining how state can come down to just a couple of shots and how it’s about doing the minor things correctly. Not only that, but golf presents a unique challenge compared to other sports, with changing courses and unpredictable weather playing a major role in performance.
“Every course is different, and you never know how it’s going to play or what the weather will do,” Hutton said. “You just have to adapt to what’s in front of you.”
Allred echoed that, pointing to environmental factors as one of the biggest obstacles players face.
“You never know if you’re going to play in calm conditions or strong wind,” Allred said. “It’s something you always have to adjust to.”
On an individual level, both players are focused on refining specific aspects of their game. Hutton points to his approach shots as a strength, while continuing to emphasize preparation and consistency.
“I just try to keep practicing what I need to work on and prepare for the course I’m about to play,” Hutton said.
While individual development remains important, the team’s primary focus is collective success. With experience, depth, and motivation on their side, Bishop Gorman enters the season determined to turn past close calls into a championship victory.
