This summer, Hollywood is bringing Blockbusters back in force, as The Sheep Detectives, Supergirl, Moana, The Odyssey, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day hit the theatres. Fans should prepare for this summer’s upcoming films by clearing their calendars and getting ready for a season packed with prominent and widely anticipated releases.
On May 8, The Sheep Detectives, featuring star actors Hugh Jackman, Nicholas Galitzine, and Emma Thompson will arrive on the big screen. This movie is so anticipated due to its quirky murder mystery theme welcoming to all ages and audiences. The movie follows a shepherd named George Hardy (Hugh Jackman) who reads mystery stories aloud to his herd of sheep every night, even though he believes they don’t actually understand. With a unique twist the sheep actually do understand his stories and after George is suddenly found dead, the sheep realize it is a murder and it is up to them to solve the case using what they’ve learned from their nightly stories. This unique and humorous movie about animals solving a murder has audiences eagerly waiting for its arrival.
The second movie in the DCU timeline and following Superman released last Summer is Supergirl, debuting on June 26, in theatres. Despite her brother being Superman, Supergirl is reckless, messy, and hardened from her past tragedies. This fantasy movie isn’t a usual cheerful superhero film and is more serious and dark with some moments of comedy. Kara Zor-El or Supergirl played by Milly Alcock sets out on an galactic journey with her dog Krypto and meets a young girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll. Together they all go on an interstellar quest to seek revenge against an unexpected villain. This space adventure also includes a big name cast such as David Corenswet (Superman) and Jason Momoa which fans are thrilled to see.
On July 17, the epic story, The Odyssey directed by one of the biggest filmmakers today, Christopher Nolan, is based on the legendary Ancient Greek story. Featuring an all cast star of Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hollander, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Jon Bernthal, Charlize Theron, and even more have fans ecstatic for its arrival. The movie is an adaptation of one of the most famous stories told and follows a Greek hero, Odysseus (Matt Damon) who starts his strenuous journey home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. On his adventure back home, he comes across mythical creatures, perilous Gods, and temptations that risk his survival to get home to his wife Penelope(Anne Hathaway) who believes he is dead. This historical story is about the long road home and loyalty while being directed by one of the best directors in the world and an all star cast.
The Odyssey isn’t the only movie with the iconic actors Tom Holland and Zendaya. The fourth movie of the Spider-Man franchise, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, includes these notorious celebrities and has fans anxiously waiting to see the continuation of this loved superhero story on July 31. Following Peter Parker (Tom Holland), the story picks back up after his identity as Spider-Man is erased from the whole world’s memory and he is truly alone living in New York with no friends or family. In the new film Peter Parker starts a new life trying to rebuild his identity while fighting street criminals, until a new villain threatens the life of the city and the people he loved from his past life. Fans all over the world are overjoyed to see Marvel return to classic street level storytelling and see Peter Parker who is isolated and no longer a kid anymore protect the city that he loves.
