The Bishop Gorman’s Women’s lacrosse team is building an impressive 6-1 record and showing no signs of slowing down.
In their most recent game, the Gaels faced Faith Lutheran’s Crusaders on April 10, With the winning score being 14-3, the game came out to be a complete blowout.
Sharing insight on on her own performance during the game, attacker Skylar Poelmans ’26 stated:
“I think I did pretty good. I was definitely hustling on the field and being there when I needed to be there. Since I’m an attacker, it’s not just about scoring, but also being helpful in the field in any way that I can. I definitely think I did a good job of that.”
The season began on a high note, with the team showcasing its offensive strength and ability to put up points, early on as the competition intensified, they faced a tough loss against Coronado, revealing hints of gaps in their performance. Rather than dwell on the defeat, the players regrouped, learned from their mistakes and came back stronger when given the opportunity to play and face the same team again.
“The first two games we came out really strong, attack-wise, and we were able to put up a lot of points. However, in the one game we lost, we all kind of dipped in all areas. But coming back and playing that team again, we were able to beat them. That team was Coronado, which is our rival team,” Hailey Pasco, ‘26 said.
With the team going 6-1 and beating their rival team at home for a chance of redemption Julia Freestone’28 discussed their pace for the season and their performance.
“It’s going pretty much exactly how we want it. We have a strong foundation, our team works really well together, and we’re going to win a state championship.”
As the team moves ahead one key theme that continues to stand out is how well players adapt and grow together despite new challenges. Whether the facing tough opponents, overcoming set backs, or integrating newer, less experienced into their ability to push through difficult moments and learn from them has strengthened both their performances
“I think going into this season, we had a bigger incoming class, so it was definitely an adjustment. But I think that so far our team chemistry has worked pretty well, and we’ve made good adjustments,” Pasco said.
Additionally, Poelmans ‘26 also mentioned, “I think overall as a team we’ve been really bonding and getting to know each other, but I think we still have a lot more improvement to do, especially when it comes to working together on the field and performing how we do in practice.”
Along with the adjustment to the new team and bonding, the younger players on the team are also adjusting to its competitiveness; however, they’ve been working exceptionally well, and play a huge role in the team and its morale.
Pasco ’26 stated, “They’ve all been showing how they want a spot and stepping up. For example, we have a freshman, her name is Casey Bone, and right now she’s leading in goals for our team. She’s really stepping up for ground balls. Also, just underclassmen in general, they’re all showing how they want a spot on the team.”
A key factor in the teams Development this season has been the contributions from the younger players and less experienced players. Thor’s willingness to learn and put effort in has helped strengthen their team as a whole.
In agreement, Polemans ‘26 also said, “They are really working hard on the field. There are so many young girls who are new to the sport, and every day they come to practice and give 100%. It means a lot to me and the older players.”
As the season moves forward, the message from the team is clear, growth, unity, and effort will define their success. With their eyes set on a state title, they are determined to keep building together and push their limits each game.
