With the end of senior year coming up quick, the class of 2026 is looking ahead into what college will be like. We asked the class of 2025 for some guidance. Here are ten pieces of advice they came up with.
- “Go to class and don’t fall behind.” -Mila Mayo ‘25 (University of Utah ‘29)
- “Be yourself but learn to grow. I think people sometimes lose their values and then lose themselves when they go away from home and meet so many new people. I think that by thinking of what your core values in life are before going away is good. Because then you can learn to grow while still knowing who you are and who you want to be.” –Lily Martin ‘25 (University of Oregon ‘29)
- “Plug into communities/clubs early on. They really help you get grounded in college and find your people.” -Yvonna Schuckman ‘25 (University of California Los Angeles ‘29)
- “Be open to new experiences and things that scare you. Freshman year is so cool because not only are you in a brand new place with brand new people, but so is everyone else so take advantage of the fact that everyone is in the same boat and put yourself out of your comfort zone.” -Averie Smith ‘25 (University of Nevada Reno ‘29)
- “Find someone above you at your college and ask for advice because having someone who has been through it will be very helpful and you shouldn’t feel afraid to reach out to people older that are already enrolled in your college from Gorman because you already have that common factor of going to the same high school.” -Adeline Flanagan ‘25 (University of Colorado Boulder ‘29)
- “Embrace the change and get involved with as much as you can! Obviously focus on studies, but take advantage of the freedom and say yes to everything. You never know who you’ll meet and what new experiences you’ll get to have.” -Alana Moore ‘25 (University of Utah ‘29)
- “I would say time management is really important. Your schedule in college is a lot more up to you than it is in high school, so learning how to use your time wisely and taking care of yourself is important.” -Bridget Keating ‘25 (Creighton University ‘29)
- “Say yes to everything. Whether it’s rushing, joining a random club, getting dinner with your friends, playing pickleball, or just hanging out in someone’s dorm, take the chance to try it all and experience it all. You’ll never know if by saying yes to something it can turn out to be memories you won’t forget or allow you to make some of your best friends. College moves so fast and these are some of the most memorable years of our lives, so say yes to it all to fill these years with memories you will never forget.” -Lucia Mazzara ‘25 (University of Tennessee Knoxville ‘29)
- “Communicate with your family and be honest.” -Mila Mayo ‘25 (University of Utah ‘29)
- “Try to embrace and experience all the school has to offer. Go to the events and experience the traditions. It makes your college choice more special and you meet so many people that way!” -Preslee Smith ‘25 (Utah State University ‘29)
