The Bishop Gorman dance team took the floor with confidence and energy on Sat., Jan. 10, at Desert Oasis High School, competing in the USA Dance Program capturing first place overall.
Surrounded by a loud cheering crowd, the team’s precision, spirits, and stage presence filled the entire gym with liveliness, creating an electric atmosphere as they delivered a standout performance that set them apart from the competition.
Angelina Rivera ‘27 shared that the first-place finish was meaningful to not only her but the entire team. “The first place win is super important because it was our first big win as a team,” she said, noting that the dance team is still relatively new to the athletic department and continuing to build its name. Grace Peralta ‘28 added to this by sharing that earning the top spot meant a great deal to the team, especially as they competed against four other schools with much longer dance histories.
Rivera shared that preparation for the competition required intense dedication, as “the most challenging part was all of the extra long rehearsals,” with the team practicing for hours over breaks and weekends. Despite the demanding schedule, all the girls emphasized that the hard work paid off. Mia Delos Reyes ‘26 says that on competition day, “We were hyping each other up right before walking on,” she explained. “We were super nervous, but mostly excited to hit the stage.”
The gym was filled with hundreds of people all along the stands, with parents and friends cheering for each school that performs. With the Bishop Gorman team rocking rhinestoned “G” on their jorts, it reminded them that they all symbolized school pride, community, and their overall team’s work ethic. The routine was nothing short of electrifying, featuring high-impact stunts and powerful movements executed in perfect synchronization. As the final beat hit, the team walked off the gym floor with shoulders back and heads held high, proud of the performance they delivered and confident in knowing they left everything they had on the floor.
As the season continues and the team looks ahead to the future competitions and nationals, this first-place finish stands as both a milestone and a promise—one that signals the beginning of something even greater for Bishop Gorman dance.
