Starting over at a new school means carrying the weight of two worlds at once, the one that was left behind, and the one you are just beginning.
On Aug. 11, a new group of students ranging from sophomores to seniors became Gaels. For transfer students the first semester is filled with new friendships, unexpected challenges, and learning how to be comfortable with being uncomfortable.
Checking in on the new Gaels helps ensure they are adjusting to their new environment while balancing social and emotional health with academic success showing them that their experience matters.
Gabriel Barisic ‘27 stated that the basketball team has made a meaningful difference in his transition because “they showed me around, showed me all of the ropes, and told me all of the rules. I sat with them at lunch and it was easy for me to become friends with them really quickly.” Bishop Gorman is a very welcoming community and all of the Gaels want to make everyone’s experience the best they can
Transfering schools isn’t easy since you are exposed to a whole new world of people. Kennedy Bartmass ‘28 said that the hardest part about starting over in a new environment was “getting used to the class changes and making new friends.”
There are great new memories, lessons, and challenges that come with transferring. Gwen Thewes ‘27 stated that her favorite memory from this year was “the Mater Dei football game or homecoming game because the energy was great…all around.”
This check in reveals the journey of the new Gorman Gaels. Showing the changes they went through and the growth that they have made. There are always going to be ups and downs to moving schools. Bartmass describes moving schools in one word as “challenging.”
