On March 13, best selling novel, Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover was brought to life as the gripping story of love and grief, leaving fans emotional and yearning for the same connection shown in the movie.
Reminders of Him starring Tyriq Withers, Maika Monroe, and Rudy Pankow is about a mother, Kenna Rowan, who returns to her hometown after serving in prison for five years after a devastating car accident that killed her boyfriend, Scotty. Kenna, played by Maika Monroe, fights to be in her daughter’s life, while getting involved in a forbidden romance with a local bar owner who she later finds out is Scotty’s old best friend, Ledger Ward (Tyriq Withers). Not only did Kenna fall in love with Ledger Ward, but fans all over the country who have never seen Tyriq Withers star in a romance movie fell head over heels.
Gia Toms ‘26 commented, “Ledger stood out to me the most because we didn’t really get to see much of his past. I’m not sure if they mention it in the book, however it would have been nice to see more of his thoughts.” Many watchers wished that the movie talked more about Ledger’s past, instead of mainly only focusing on Kenna.
Even though many fans watched the movie for the well known actors, viewers were also captivated by the emotional story and deep message behind it. Reminders of Him deals with grief and forgiveness, causing controversy on whether Kenna deserved a second chance.
Toms stated, “I think that Kenna definitely deserved a second chance. When they showed the actual accident, it looked like an accident. It wasn’t because she was being reckless. She was also clearly very distraught and just wanted what was best for her daughter.”
There was much controversy when it came to the relationship between Kenna and Ledger. Many people were questioning if Kenna and Ledger’s relationship was appropriate due to the fact that she has feelings for Scotty’s best friend.
Olivia Gayheart ‘27 stated, “I thought their relationship was cute. I know that there is definitely some controversy however, I think that they were able to find happiness in such a terrible scenario.” Although their relationship seemed wrong, many people understood that they truly were a perfect match for each other at the end.
Reminders of Him grossed around 18 million dollars in the first week of release. It became the number one spot in the box office as well. Overall, the film made around 30 million globally making it a very successful romance film.
“I would definitely recommend this movie to other students if they like movies like this one and if they just want to see a good movie,” stated Gayheart. If you like to watch romance movies, people definitely recommend going to the theatres and watching it.
