Thurs. Nov. 20, students were welcomed into the many National Honor Societies that Bishop Gorman has to offer during an induction ceremony held in the House of Glory Gym at 5:30pm.
President Diya Patel ‘26 opened the ceremony by welcoming everyone to the night. Throughout the event, many speakers talked about the societies, Fr. Jacob said a prayer over all the inductees, Mr. Radzak and Mr. Goertemiller read names to welcome members, and Mr. Goode closed the night off with a brief speech honoring students and thanking parents.
Makamae Eugenio ‘27, who was being inducted into National Art Honor Society and Quill and Scroll Honor Society, shared that the best part of the ceremony “was being officially called up and recognized in front of my family, classmates, and teachers. That moment made everything feel real, and it was meaningful to be honored in a setting that celebrated academic excellence and achievement.”
Honor society membership is more than just a title or cord at graduation- it exemplifies the hard work that students put in during their time as underclassmen and honors the continual work students put in to remain in the society after being inducted. It is an honor worth being recognized.
Isabelle Nassar ‘26, who is already a member of National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, and National Science Honor Society and was inducted into Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society), said “Personally, induction into the honor societies is a personal achievement for me because I am proud of myself for the work that I have done.”
Being invited into an honor society does not put a stop to academic challenges. Membership entails a time and service commitment, as well as an unending drive for academic achievement throughout the entirety of members’ high school careers. Honor society students continue to push themselves academically until graduation, with this drive following them into college.
Eugenio said, “Moving forward, my goal is to continue to grow academically by challenging myself with rigorous classes, maintaining strong grades, and staying involved in leadership and service opportunities.”
On the whole, the ceremony was an excellent way to welcome, recognize, and honor new members of the National Honor Societies at Gorman; additionally, it served as a reminder for students that they must continue to remain focused, working determinedly to maintain the requirements the societies each individually hold.
