Simar Jolly ‘26 serves as a Lead for National Women’s Caucus as the Hindu Caucus Chair for the High School Democrats of America, and on the Nevada HSDA Board, where she works to emphasize youth voices in politics.
NWPC (National Women’s Political Caucus) is a democratic organization founded in 1971 with the aim to increase women’s participation and leadership in the political process. They mainly advocate for the rights of equal pay, equal rights, and access to health care.
The motto they are known by is “RECRUIT. TRAIN. ELECT.” as it captures their core mission of identifying, recruiting, training, and supporting women candidates for elected and appointed office.
Jolly is a voice for many as she takes a political stance whilst still being a high school student. When asked what inspired her to advocate for not only teen voices but also for women across the country, she responded with genuinely.
“Many people don’t think politics affect them, even though they obviously do,” Jolly explained, “Especially with events that are going on now, even people under18 should be aware since there are ongoing debates on student loans and the rights they may have in the future… However, a lot of people aren’t able to speak up so I strive to be that outlet for them.”
There are many who look up to Jolly’s role of advocacy and what she represents as a Hindu Caucus Chair for the High School Democrats of America. For those who seek out to commit to be the voice of others, she gives them a word of advice.
“Focus on the “why”,” Jolly said. “If you can speak to just one person, who knows how many people that person can reach out to about your [opinion].”
