The Bishop Gorman varsity football team kicked off their season on Friday, Aug. 22, shutting down No. 20 ranked Centennial with a score of 52-0 and setting the tone for yet another dominant season.
This game was not just the season opener, it was a statement to teams across the nation that Bishop Gorman is not only here to compete this year, they are here to dominate. Co-captain and recent University of Arizona commit Prince Williams ‘26 said, “I felt really good about the game. It showcased who our team is, and it also showed that Gorman’s future is going to be something special.”
The Gaels continue to build on their reputation as a powerhouse; they did not waste any time showcasing their talent and teamwork on the field. From kickoff, the team executed every play at a high level, leaving no doubt about their intentions this season.
For many of the players this game marked their last first game in high school, symbolizing the beginning of the end of their high school football careers. Co-captain and recent University of Oregon commit Jett Washington ‘26 stated, “It’s a great feeling because it feels like it’s been so long since we have played and we have put in many hours getting prepared.”
At Bishop Gorman, going to football games is a chance for everyone to come together and be a community while cheering on their Gaels. “I think football games are important for building the school community here at the G because it gives students something to look forward to, and to also experience G block, as well as the adrenaline and what it feels like to watch and cheer for such a great team,” Preseah Williams ‘26 relayed.
As the Gales look ahead to the rest of the season, their focus remains and their goals are clear— maintaining their dominance and bringing another championship home to Bishop Gorman are their priorities.
The Gaels want to be remembered as the team who showed up, stuck together, and gave it their all every game. “We’re not a seven and three team. I feel like this team is something different this year… we could possibly be a natty team,” said Isaiah Nickels ‘26.
The Gaels travel to Hawaii on Thursday, Aug. 28, to take on the Kahuku Red Raiders with a mission to bring another victory back home to the Valley.
