Prom week arrived at Bishop Gorman, and this year’s theme is Mamma Mia! Throughout the week, faculty and students will dress up in outfits inspired by the theme to show off their school spirit.
At Bishop Gorman, prom is more than just a dance but a tradition of having a prom week leading up to the main dance. ASG makes sure to go above and beyond because to some students it’s their first prom week and to others it’s their last. Prom week kicked off with jersey day, where students will bring school spirit by representing their favorite sports team.
On jersey day, “it’s the winner takes it all”, with all the students dressed up by wearing a jersey from their favorite sports team. “I am wearing a Barcelona FC jersey because they are my favorite soccer team and I have been supporting them since I can remember,” Hector Miranda ‘26 said. Having the chance to dress up in different outfits each day is meaningful to students. This gave people the opportunity to represent their teams.
The following day was dedicated to future college or dream jobs. Students celebrated by wearing attire from their chosen college or dressing up as their dream profession. “I represented the University of Utah. I will be attending the U in the fall of 2025. I plan to major in business administration and minor in interior design! I am super excited to attend school in Utah, I love the location. I’m most excited to go to college to meet new people, make new friends and have new experiences,” Hannah Shahoian ‘25 said.
On Wednesday, the Bishop Gorman campus had a tropical twist, with students showing up in fun vacation outfits.” Personally I loved tourist day because of the people who brought cameras, we all got a bunch of cute pictures. Also I loved being able to dress up like I would if I was on vacation,” Victoria Widden ‘26 said.
For the second to last day of prom week it was all about friendship and matching outfits. Students teamed up in groups of three, showing off coordinated outfits. “I liked trio day because it was fun to see everyone’s outfits. Some of the people really went all out,” Sofia Conte ‘26 said. Teachers also joined in on the fun with the Theology department dressing up as Ms. Treamaterra.
In classic tradition, prom week wrapped up with an assembly. Freshmen and seniors wore white, while sophomores and juniors wore blue to match the Greece theme. The event was packed with memories, especially for the seniors. This marked their final prom assembly and last high school assembly ever. “It is crazy to think that this is my last prom as a Gael! These four years have flown by. I’ve made so many memories at the G, and have made many lifelong friends. It makes me emotional to think that this is the last time this specific group of kids will ever be in the gym for assemblies again,” Shahoian said.
