With the beginning of the 2025 semester, Bishop Gorman opened up the brand new Student Union that includes a study area, a robotics lab, a broadcasting studio, a club meeting room, and a Peet’s Coffee shop.
At this coffee shop, students can order matcha lattes, frappuccinos, coffees, refreshers, or smoothies. Along with those drinks, come the usual cafe snacks. These snacks include hot sandwiches, muffins, salads, fruit cups, and the usual chips found in the commons.
We (Martin, Medford, and Munoz) ordered a matcha frappuccino, a caramel frappuccino, caramel macchiato, and a blueberry muffin. From previous orders, we decided that the best variant of matcha is the hot matcha latte, as the frappuccino had too much matcha and the iced had too much milk. After a somewhat bitter and coffee-filled first taste of the caramel frappuccino, the taste balanced out to have a balance between coffee and caramel. Even with mixed reviews from the caramel macchiato, the coffee shop has mastered the iced caramel macchiato, with it being sweeter than the same drink hot. The pre-packaged blueberry muffin was surprisingly soft and moist.
The general student consensus was that the smoothies, especially strawberry smoothies, are a favorite from Peet’s Coffee, with matcha lattes and frappuccinos being close seconds. However, many students said that they wished there were more food options at the cafe. “Like right there (at Peet’s) is nice but it’s not, like, cafe-y,” Jackson Stamm ‘28 said.
Another hit drink item on the menu is the vanilla frappuccinos offering an authentic taste that many places can not perfect.“It tastes like pure vanilla. It tastes like a milkshake, it doesn’t taste like frappuccino with the milk, it tastes like vanilla,” said Claire Wheeler ‘28.
Students overall believe that not only is this a coffee shop to come get their daily dose of caffeine, but also a place of learning, studying, and socialization. “I like how it’s a very open area and how a lot of people are here and I’m able to see a lot of my friends,” said Megrit Mediana ‘25.
With the new Peet’s Coffee now being on campus students have been able to see a different side of the Bishop Gorman community. They are able to get food and drinks while socializing with other students.
