Bishop Gorman’s new flag football league is in motion and filled with a lot of action. With a new league and new rules, participants are more excited than ever to learn from the BGHS football players.

This year Bishop Gorman has partnered with US flag football, adopting their rule book in order to give the young players an opportunity to compete while having fun at the same time. Each Saturday, children ages kindergarten to 8th grade get the opportunity to play football while being coached by players of the national championship team. Each grade level has six teams and one team will be crowned as the winner at the end of the eight-week period.

Sophomore Will Atkinson, who coaches 3rd grade, stated that “I feel like the league is a great way for us to help young kids feel what it is like to play football at Bishop Gorman.” He also adds that a lot of the kids who are in the league are also the same kids who are in the stands watching the Gaels play throughout the season.

Senior Collins Trainor says that “I was once in their shoes. I used to play in the league as a child and I was always excited to play and talk to all of the players.” Although kids want to play, they really want to build relationships with some of the players.

As the league continues to progress week after week, the bond between players and coaches grows stronger every weekend. Although sometimes the little kids are hard to get under control, it is the coaches job to teach them how it feels to be a Bishop Gorman football player.
