On Oct. 8 and 9, 2022, Downtown Summerlin held the 26th annual “Summerlin Festival of Arts,” featuring aspiring artists from three schools in the valley: Alexander Dawson, The Meadows, and Bishop Gorman.
Multiple students from Bishop Gorman were selected to showcase their variety of art throughout the Saturday and Sunday events. This was the first festival showcase for the Bishop Gorman junior Farrah Walker. Walker’s panel featured her illustrations, which she describes as a representation of herself. “I think it is the closest thing I can really say to my hobbies and reflecting who I am.”
Walker has displayed interest in art since she was four. She has continued to explore a variety of mediums and forms of art in her years, with hopes for more in the future. “I have explored a lot, like pastel, watercolor, digital, the only exception is oil but I’ll get to that eventually.”
The festival of arts has given Walker and many other students an opportunity to display their talents and recognition of their art. This is a stepping stone in Walker’s future career as she aspires to pursue art further. “I am hoping that at some point maybe within my career I can be able to be an art teacher,”
Walker’s illustrations were featured in the festival, but she has a variety of mediums she works with and creates art with. “I like illustrations, but I do like to occasionally break off and just sort of do doodles and watercolor”
