How the earth loved the sun

Amelia Gemignani '23, Galea Editor

A giggle filled with light,

And a sigh from the stars –

She looks at me as if I am the earth,

And she is the sun who warms my world.

We sit in the grassy meadow,

Away from the rapid and ravenous squeals the city.

I look at her as my peaceful sun,

But melancholic clouds block my view.

She is my sun, and I am her earth,

But they will never touch due to the destruction that will follow.

My heart reverberates with an agonizing clang

Because of how unfeasible my starcrossed desires are .

But in the hidden meadow away from opinionated gurgles of life,

We are not bound to duty or destiny.

Out of the sightline of nature and nurture,

The earth embraced the sun without regard to the chaos it could bring.
