Bishop Gorman football rolling on a high, but always room for improvement
October 5, 2022
Bishop Gorman football defeated the Arbor View Aggies after a highly anticipated battle between the top teams in the state.
The Gaels dominated the Aggies on Friday the 21st in a 63-0 victory. Big contributors to the win included the defense, which held the Aggies to just five first downs, forced two fumbles, had a pick-6, and allowed 0 points. Senior defensive lineman, Aiden McComber, commented on this week’s defensive performance, “After fixing a few mistakes upfront, we executed our assignment and curriculum well, he added, “the secondary had trust in us up front and we had trust in them on the backend. We definitely brought it together, which allowed us to achieve our goal of letting up zero points.”
With just one loss early in the year, there are still many necessary areas of improvement for the team. Senior quarterback, Parker Berg, shared his thoughts on where he feels the team has developed most, “everyone has learned to keep each other accountable and stay disciplined,” Berg continues, “in the past few games we’ve had very limited penalties which definitely shows our growth…and with the national championship goal still in mind, every player is learning to become a leader both on and off the field.”
Now nearing the halfway mark of the 2022 season, senior Trech Kekahuna has high hopes and expectations for this year’s nationally ranked team, “the expectation remains the same as the season continues: to prepare for every game as we would against a top team in the nation. With so much talent across the state, we cannot take any team lightly,” he claimed, “working hard and staying focused will lead us to achieving our goal of becoming state and national champions later this season.”
After a great team win against Arbor View, “trust and dedication” is the key to this year’s continued success for the Gorman football squad.
