During breast cancer awareness month some of the Bishop Gorman sports teams dedicated games to raise awareness for those who are survivors and those who are currently battling for recovery.
Many people know someone who has had breast cancer. One in every eight women will be affected by breast cancer in the United States.
The women’s volleyball and women’s soccer teams had a pink out game. During the game, there were raffles and fundraisers that brought more supporters and fans to the game.
Women’s varsity volleyball senior Ellie Prindl ‘26 explained that, “It really helped the audience understand how big of a deal breast cancer awareness is and it really made everyone come together and dress out in pink.”
The positive and upbeat environment allowed the players to grow closer together. “We were able to realize the impact on people who had breast cancer and anyone’s family on the team who might be going through it. It brought everyone together and we were able to play for a purpose,” Prindl shared.
The women’s soccer team also had a pink out game for their senior night. The team was able to reach their fundraising goal of $500 throughout the month of October.
Women’s soccer player Devyn Giraldo ‘26, who has a family member who was affected from breast cancer, was able to truly understand the impact of the game and its purpose. She shared, “It really influences me because it just brings my attention to something that’s so much bigger. If I didn’t know someone who had breast cancer, I don’t think I’d be so aware of it.”
These games were a great way to bring attention and awareness to an important cause that affects women worldwide.
