Wednesday, the annual homecoming powderpuff games took place on Fertita Field, setting the stage for the ultimate showdown between the girls of Bishop Gorman.
To prepare for the games, the girls attended practice last Wednesday and this Monday. It was a good way for players to get to know each other and for coaches to motivate the girls for game day. Grace Medford ‘26 shared that she was encouraged by “how excited the coaches got when I got an interception at practice” which gave her confidence going into the powderpuff games.
There are many reasons why students choose to play powderpuff, but for seniors, it is a chance to make one of your last high school memories with your friends. Kamryn Farley ‘26 shared, “One thing I’ll remember most about this experience is playing with all my friends and being excited when we won. Playing my last powderpuff game was very surreal…and I’m going to miss the energy and good times I had while playing powderpuff.”

The games are a great way to showcase school spirit. Senior coach Hudson Borsari ‘26 shared, “To me, powderpuff is a great tradition at Gorman and every year it is super energetic. I think it is something that brings the community together in a very positive way.”
To kick off the night, the freshman faced the juniors at 6:30pm. In a tough competition, the juniors took the victory, securing their spot in the final.
Chloe Gregoryan ‘27 shared a memorable moment from the games she played that night. “I will remember when I threw a three point conversion after running a touchdown because we did run most of our plays. I was very excited after that because I rarely get to throw the ball during the actual game.”
This win brought energy to the junior girls. Angela Khayat ‘27 shared, “It’s exciting points in the game…that you have the most fun. Then you can celebrate with your friends.”

The next game took place at 7:30pm between the sophomores and seniors. With the sophomores taking an early lead, the seniors had to work hard to make a comeback. Nonetheless, the class of 2026 came out on top, ready to take on the juniors in the final.
Though they may have lost the game, the sophomores were still able to make memories with their teammates. Lillian Carson ‘28 said, “What I will remember about this experience is getting to play the game with my friends, and taking pictures with them after. I will also remember getting to see my friends from different grades play against each other.”

The final game began at 8:30pm. The defending powderpuff champions, the class of 2026, won their very last powderpuff game, bringing home a victory for the whole senior class. Co-MVP Olivia Cobell ‘26 said, “As we know from last year, the win is never secured for the seniors, so that made me feel like we really had to perform in order to pull it off.”
After the game, the seniors rushed the field, cheered, and took a picture. Shortly after, Cobell and Preseah Williams ‘26 were named co-MVPs.
Just as in years previous, the powderpuff games were a great way to get many students involved in the week’s festivities. Jenelle Trujillo ‘26 shared, “Powderpuff was something that I feel made this homecoming experience even better because I got to be a part of a tradition that has been at Gorman for years.”
