From Sept. 19-21, the Lady Gaels varsity basketball team traveled all the way to Calgary, Canada to play at the Edge Invitational Showcase at Edge Prep High School.
The Lady Gaels played three Canadian teams, starting off with WCPA on Friday night.

This game wasn’t close from the jump; the Lady Gaels led 42-14 at halftime, and the final score was 71-42.
Point guard Arianna Brewer ‘29 set the tempo for the team by scoring the first five points of the game. “I feel like I have to step up and just be great for my team,” Brewer said.
However, the competition got tougher as the tournament progressed. The Lady Gaels played Edge Prep at their home court on Saturday. Besides the tough competition, the team faced some adversity in that they had to adjust to the different Canadian basketball rules, which changed the tempo at which they played.
“It was a different experience, but it was kind of cool to get to experience it and to be able to adapt to new rules and just to be out there and play,” guard Aubrey Johnson ‘28 explained.

The Gaels were leading 37-31 going into half time. The score was closer than they wanted but they managed to never take their foot off the gas and ended up winning with a score of 87-66, their highest scoring game of the weekend.
“We really shared the ball and were always there supporting each other and that’s why we played well together as a whole,” guard Kenzee Holton ‘27 emphasized.
Sunday morning, Sept. 21, was the team’s final game in the invitational, in which they played against Genesis High School from Western Canada. In this game they led by 10 at halftime with a score of 48-38. The final score of the game was 80-56.
Overall, the Lady Gaels went 3-0 in the showcase, beating all Canadian teams and making their team chemistry much stronger as they prepare for the season. With last year’s returners, adding on two great incoming freshmen, they have a great chance of winning the 2026 State Championship.
The Lady Gaels will be playing in their last two pre-season tournaments: the Border League from Oct. 3-5, and the Las Vegas Invitational from Oct. 10-12, 2025.
