Bishop Gorman tennis had a dominant start to the week, sweeping Centennial on Sept. 15 with the girls cruising to a 17-1 victory and the boys rolling 14-4, before splitting matches with Meadows two days later as the girls edged out an 11-7 win and the boys fell 10-8.
On September 10, the Bishop Gorman tennis team played against Palo Verde and came up short against them. The girls team lost 12-6 while the boys team lost 16-2.
The Palo Verde girls tennis team has won five straight Class 5A state titles and eight overall. In their last season, the girls team went 14-0. The Palo Verde boys tennis team has won seven Class 5A state titles. Palo Verde has many strengths during their matches. Nicholas Quintero ‘28 said, “They have more experience.” and Ryan Rouhani ‘28 stated, “They had good consistency.”
Bishop Gorman also had many strengths during this match. Players state that they believe that they did good because they had smart gameplay and good serves.
Leilani Raymond ‘28 and Alex Song ‘26 were able to win two out of their three matches, and two out of the six points for the girls team. They both felt most confident playing at the net. Raymond stated, “I love playing doubles because of my confidence at the net and today my game reflected that. I definitely felt most confident in my volleys today.”
Despite the loss, Bishop Gorman showed many strengths and gained experience to improve through the rest of the season. The tennis team travels to California on September 25-27th.
