Every Thursday, Bishop Gorman varsity football team moms spend countless hours preparing pasta before their weekend games, giving players the energy and motivation they need to perform well.
Yolanda Williams, mother of captain Prince Williams ‘26, is the head team mom and really the “cornerstone” of all of the team trips and meals that the players get throughout the year. The continuous hard work and dedication from these moms every week is one of the reasons why the team is undefeated. “Planning meals every week and also cooking takes a good amount of time to do. But honestly, we enjoy the work because we want to make sure the boys get the energy they need for the game,” said Williams.
Although the food is exceptionally good, the opportunity the players are given to talk with each other and share some quality time together is the most important part. It exemplifies how strong the team really is. It also makes players realize how much their parents sacrifice for them everyday. “The pasta dinners are my favorite part of the week besides the game. The bread and pasta is so good and these meals give us the chance to relax and mentally prepare for the game,” said Isaiah Nickels ’26.
Football is more than just X’s and O’s. She says that it teaches these kids valuable life lessons that change them from boys to young men. These dinners build values of friendship and gratitude, making these kids and their team one of a kind. “When these kids know we take time to cook for them every week, it teaches them about gratitude and that football is more important than just the game,” said Michelle Eugenio, mother of Maika Eugenio ‘26.
Although these are just simple meals, the feeling and memories they provide are timeless for the team. “We bond over the food and the stories we get to talk about. The dinner makes a vibe that is hard to find anywhere else,” said Hudson Borsari ‘26.
