On Sept.7, new and returning participants of the Upper Room Confirmation program and Core Team leaders at Holy Spirit gathered for a welcome back barbecue, the event aimed to bring people together through the Lord.
During the barbecue, attendees enjoyed games, singing, dancing and food. Everyone came together at the BBQ to help kick off the year in the upper room, and introduced the central focus of this year, “Radiant Hope.”
Youth and young adult ministry coordinator Louie Latina said that he loved seeing the young church come together through this event. “After not seeing each other for a long time over the summer, this truly brings the core team and new arrivals together,” he said. He also enjoys catching up with those he regularly hangs out with, but this time in a new environment.
Core team member Eric Landaz ’26 said that being a part of a Catholic community means having “a pillar to support you throughout your journey.” The BBQ reflected this spirit, as everyone joined together through their faith.
During the event, many people were socializing with fellow Core youth group members. Attendee Derain Rucker ‘28 said his favorite moment was seeing people and reconnecting with friends.
“There is great joy in seeing people come together in the name of Jesus!” Latina said. “When we gather, when we laugh, we relate to one another, when we share stories, we share faith, we sing and we pray.”
The group shared, reflecting the joyful atmosphere and looking forward to another wonderful year filled with prayer and love. “David danced before the Lord with all his might, wearing a priestly garment,” 2 Samuel 6:14-22.
