Bishop Gorman’s math department was met with a brand new face this fall, and students are already buzzing about Mr. Stellavato after three weeks of the new school year.
Mr. Stellavato worked in the Clark County School District for thirty years, twenty eight of which were spent teaching math at Basic High School. He’s always had a passion for math and numbers were always his strong-suit when he was younger, so after a final push from a high school math teacher, it was only fitting that teaching math became his specialty.
“I’d tutored in math and worked with kids before, but there came to be a point where I had a really bad teacher in high school,” Mr. Stellavato said. “I thought to myself, ‘You know what, I’m good at math and I think I could do a lot better than that.”
Outside of room 203, Mr. Stellavato likes to spend his time travelling the world and attending concerts. But when it comes to the classroom, algebra is his favorite.
“I’m not a geometry guy, algebra just makes sense to me,” Mr. Stellavato said. “That’s how it’s always been for me, so naturally, I enjoy teaching anything algebra-related more than any other math topic.”
Besides being a master with numbers, Mr. Stellavato has the type of teaching style that students cannot get enough of. “When I first met Mr. Stellavato, I thought he seemed like a really nice and charismatic teacher,” Claire Slanker ‘28 said. “He’s very willing and eager to make conversation with his students, so he’s super approachable if any of us need help.”
Mr. Stellavato is the ideal addition to the Bishop Gorman community, and the school as a whole is excited to see what he brings to the math department.
