Every Saturday, from 9 am to 2 pm, the Downtown Summerlin Farmers Market hosts many local vendors and hundreds of shoppers.
This event helps promote small businesses and local goods as rows of booths are overfilled with fresh produce, handmade products, and irresistible smells. The market gives visitors a chance to try unique foods and meet unique people. On Aug. 16, I visited to find out who’s behind the booths, what draws people in week after week, and how this lively event that’s filled with personality attracts shoppers consistently.
The farmers market brings together vendors of many different kinds, from soaps and candles, to snacks and desserts. This kind of variety means there’s something for everyone. Fun for the whole family can be found here in this one place! Visitor, Jakari Wilson, explained that he comes every Saturday as part of his weekly grocery shopping, “A lot of the stand owners know me here since I’m somewhat of a regular. I get a lot of my essentials here like fruits and veggies because I believe in supporting local businesses and eating fresh, locally sourced food.”
Wilson also expressed his love for the non-edibles at the Farmer’s Market. Again in an effort to support local and small businesses, he mentioned that he buys “a lot of candles at the market.” From unique scents and textures to premium ingredients, there are many reasons to love the candles sold at Downtown Summerlin. “YB Candle Co. is my favorite candle brand and another reason I’m at the Farmers Market every week. They always have the best seasonal scents. Right now they’re promoting a new pumpkin chai flavor to get ready for the fall season.”
Other products like pottery and jewelry are also big at the market, with companies such as Stuck On Pottery and Impulsive Impressions selling those products respectively. Often these unique and beautiful items are also handmade, which just adds to the list of reasons people flock to the market every weekend to browse them and buy from these flourishing businesses.
Aside from the essentials, the Farmers Market at Downtown Summerlin is a great place to try new foods and possibly discover new favorites. There are tons of vendors advertising their innovative products and often even offering samples, like Brian Chen, founder of Kyunu, a ramen company. Kyunu’s noodles are unique for their high protein (6g) and fiber (34g) content. He explained that people really like the flavor and texture of the noodles, and spoke a little bit about what sparked the vision for the brand, “We started last year here in Las Vegas because I really wanted to create a product that I enjoyed eating.”
Whether you want a snack, a drink, a dessert, a candle, a soap, a piece of artwork, or just to spend some time in the sun, the Farmer’s Market at Downtown Summerlin is the perfect place to check out, with someone else or alone, you’re bound to have a good time!
