Bishop Gorman Students were jumping out of their seats with 2025’s summer horror movies. With the familiar faces and shocking twists in Sinners, the terrifying suspense in Weapons, and the eerie return of Final Destination, students are still recovering. These “Summer Screams,” are back in full force and will have you talking about it long after the credits rolled.
Earning over $365 million worldwide the movie, Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler was placed in the same league as Jordan Peele’s Get Out and John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place. This major success was due to its original screenplay and all star cast.
“My favorite character was Smoke and Mary because their story added more depth to the movie.”
According to Ella Redden ‘26, “My favorite character was Smoke and Mary because their story was so interesting.” Smoke and Mary brought familiar faces, Michael B. Jordan and Hailee Steinfeld, to the screen. Battling the vampires of the night, complicated relationships, and brotherly bonds had fans entranced with this original story. Even though Sinners was an all time favorite, it was not the most frightening.
Becoming the highest grossing installment in the franchise, Final Destination: Bloodlines, not only achieved the highest opening weekend for a final destination film, but also had viewers horror struck in theatres. Final Destination has always been a popular franchise, and the newest movie only further proved this. Many fans are expressing how the newest movie has been the best so far. Surpassing the $200 million mark globally, has audiences questioning if the infamous Final Destination is going to return once more.
Gia Toms ‘26 admitted, “ I liked how it wasn’t a typical formula for a Final Destination movie, and instead of it being the same as always they incorporated more of a family connection.”
Final Destination may have had viewers disturbed with savage imagery, however nothing like the utter suspense and confusion radiating from the new movie, Weapons.
“The waiting and suspense was the most terrifying aspect of Weapons,” Sutton Mcveigh ‘26 explained.
Weapons was placed among the most profitable films of the summer due to its social media attention and positive audience reviews. Marketing strategies, including little children running creepily in real life just like the ones in this alarming movie had people exhilarated to watch. This bone-chilling film took a turn with its dark comedy and made it even more amusing to watch.
With the all star cast and original story of Sinners, the gruesome and bloodthirsty film of Final Destination, and the horrifying, shocking tale of Weapons, these movies will be hard to beat this fall season.
