The Vegas Golden Knights have started the first ever high school hockey league in the valley, the “Vegas Golden Knights High School League.”
Players in high schools throughout Las Vegas can now represent their area codes and compete in a fast growing, high level high school league.
This marks a huge milestone for hockey in Las Vegas where there is no high school level competition for hockey players. Rylan Carlson ‘27 said, “this league can help grow hockey in Las Vegas by inspiring more kids to play at a higher level.”
The league features eight different zones that feature 16 teams between them. Each area has one team in the major league and the other in the minor league. These eight zones are Centennial, Summerlin, Red Rock, Spring Valley, Anthem, Paradise, and Henderson. Student athletes from any of these zones can compete against each other at a higher level.
The league is a great opportunity for all hockey players in the valley. It’s a great entry point for newer players, helping them learn the game, while also providing a competitive league for those who have played for a while. Dominic Palazzolo ‘28, explained, “the league provides an opportunity for kids who have been playing for a long time but also for those kids who are just getting into hockey as well.”
Right now, teams across the valley are looking to make history trying to win the first ever championship for their zip code. “It’s exciting to think that if we win the championship we will go down in history,” said Anthony Montana, ‘28.
