April 26 was men’s lacrosse senior day, celebrating seniors who are leaving an amazing Bishop Gorman program. Coming off a state championship from last year these seniors will be leaving with a title and a legacy at Gorman.
“Senior night in general is a good way to celebrate and respect those guys who put in a lot of hard work for all four years of high school,“ said Charlie Elhers ‘27. The team tradition goes back many years and is a sign of respect for seniors and appreciation for what they have accomplished and done for the team.
“I have seen all the seniors graduate and finally being there with my parents and friends it felt really nice,” said Aden Andersen ‘25. The seniors invited their parents and friends to come and celebrate their final home game so they are all together as a group. The feeling of finally being there and being the senior, is a very surreal feeling. For three years they honored everyone else but now finally they get to be the stars of the show.
“It all comes full circle from when you were a freshmen to see it all pay off and being recognized for that was pretty cool,” said Ben Urso ‘25. The dedication to a high school team is important. Senior day showed the dedication that every athlete has to the sport and team at Gorman. It even goes beyond the recognition of colleges and coaches but reminds you that every teammate, parent, and friend is there to support you and help you grow as an athlete.
“It was super sweet I had family come from California too, so it was really everyone coming together” said Andersen ‘25. Having senior day on a Saturday let students invite family who would not normally come. Having everyone there to support the seniors for their last home game before playoffs is always a special feeling. It is even more important to the players when they are going into a playoffs where they could become back to back champions of Nevada.
“We did not get the outcome we wanted but we knew what we had to do,” said Urso ‘25 “the performance was there, it was just a lack of executing it.” Heading into playoffs looking to go back to back, being able to work out the problems before the games count is very important. Although the final score was not favorable it was still a great afternoon for everyone and will lead into a hopeful team for the playoffs.
“The leadership is something from Gorman that I will have to take to college,” said Andersen ‘25.
