On April 4 through 6, colorguard, band, drumline, and percussion went to California for their final competition, with Drumline getting first place, receiving the second highest score in all the competition, as well as a second place finish for colorguard.
“It’s really fun getting to go to California, especially with the nice weather and getting to perform out of state, especially because in Vegas there are not as good teams, while in California there is a lot more diversity in the teams,” said Daphne Gregory ‘26.
The color guard placed in the top two out of their entire division which is 2A high school. This is the second highest division and color guards all along the west coast set their sights on getting into the 1A high school division.
“That was probably one of our best runs, and I think [2nd place] was well deserved,” said Gregory. There was an overall consensus between the color guard members that their best performance was in California and their record showed that too. Everyone hoped that their great placing and performance will bring more attention to color guard and make it more influential at Gorman.
Band went to California and came out on top with a first place finish and the second highest score ever in competition history. This outstanding performance was led by Marc Cudiamat ‘25 who is the captain of the band team. “When you are in a performance you can tell when something is off, but throughout the entire time we were playing everything felt locked in,” said Cudiamat.
Coming off of their last competition when they got a low 70, so it came as a surprise to everyone when they got a 91. This was no accident, it came from hard work and dedication of everyone on the band team, as well as their ability to perform under the pressure that comes with playing.
“I am a senior and it is great knowing that I left a mark on my time here,” said Cudiamat.
