The days of relying on fast fashion for quick, affordable finds are over. Nuuly, a trending clothing subscription service, is establishing itself as a better way to update your closet from the convenience of your couch.
Nuuly makes it easy to customize your wardrobe every single month. To join the new fashion movement, all you do is pay $98 a month and select six different pieces of clothing. This online brand offers various styles of tops, dresses, pants, athletic wear, and skirts- all of which are available in different sizes. When you click on a potential piece, you see customer reviews and photos.
“I haven’t tried this new shopping option yet, but just from looking at the website, I am very interested,” said Geneva Miller ‘26. “Right now, shopping online is more popular than ever and I like how you can rewear the clothes.”
Along with different styles and sizes, there is a plethora of brands that are offered through this online retailer. From Free People to Urban Outfitters, there is something unique for everyone. This is one of the many reasons why this concept is a hit, especially in the south. The large availability of game-day options is what has been drawing in SEC sorority girls. Gorman alum and Ole Miss student Abby Gacek ‘24 explained how popular Nuuly is in the south.
“It is huge out here at Ole Miss,” said Gacek. “I went to pick up a package yesterday and there was a whole corner full of the bags. Everyone uses it especially for formals and date parties.”
Each month, you wear these six pieces as many times as you want. If you weren’t sold on this new shopping option already, here’s the selling point: you can return a piece if it is broken or dirty, and you won’t be charged.
Of course, there is the chance that you fall in love with an item (or six). Good news: Nuuly offers a discounted price to buy it used.
Keeping up with the trends is important, but so is sustainability. In today’s world, fast fashion companies are profiting at an all time high. Shein, H&M, and Zara are some of the online global retailers that are known for their large selection of clothing at a very low price.
“I sometimes shop on SHEIN, usually if I am going on vacation I will look there for many different styles of outfits,” said Giavanna Panaro ‘25. “I love online shopping because it is an easier way to look at all the clothes that shops have and it is convenient if you do not want to go to a store since the clothes can get shipped right to your house.”
American consumers are known to constantly purchase clothes, not worrying about the environmental impact. So often, we feel the need to buy a new top or dress for an event, when we already have something that we forgot was hanging up in our closet. Gacek said that this is exactly what happens in college, which is why Nuuly is the perfect option.
“Girls will pick an outfit for a party theme and then return it for the following month for a new set of items,” said Gacek.
Spending less money on clothes and having a rotating closet are in style.
