Bishop Gorman’s Mock Trial teams made an impressive mark at the state competition onMarch 13 and 14, securing both third and fourth place finishes.
After dominating at regionals and landing themselves an invitation to state, both mock trial classes put endless effort into preparing for the big weekend. Between attending various practices and being visited by several District Attorneys, they were determined to put their best foot forward.
“We had already built our case for regionals, so our preparation for state was mainly fine-tuning the details and reworking the weakest parts of our case,” Isabelle Nassar ‘26, a valued member of Mock Trial, said.
Competing against numerous skilled teams from different cities in Nevada, the state competition was definitely a challenge for Mock Trial.
Even with a double victory in the top 5, the teams had to try their hardest not to get discouraged. “It didn’t feel great to lose a round that you thought you won, but we stopped letting it affect us and instead used it as a learning experience,” Nassar explained.
That same weekend, Simar Jolly ‘26 was met with nothing but success at American Legion’s State Competition. “This was my first year being able to compete in this competition, since the whole team was in Reno,” Jolly said. “Going into it, I felt a little hopeless because I wasn’t feeling my best due to travel and the weather changes.”
Nonetheless, she managed to pull off a second place win, which she described as the perfect way to start spring break.
First place or not, Bishop Gorman’s Mock Trial teams showed off their hard work and skills as a team at state, ready to accomplish even more in the upcoming season. “I know that I, along with the rest of the team, really want to win state next year and advance to nationals,” Nassar said. “That’s the biggest goal we have set for ourselves!”
