Online dress stores sell out and in person stores fill with customers. With Prom just around the corner, junior and senior girls at Bishop Gorman are picking out their perfect dress, each one reflecting a unique style and personality.
Finding a different and extraordinary prom dress is always stressful. Most girls follow the trends and themes, but Lucia Mazzara ‘25 took inspiration from “Dancing with the Stars” pro Whitney Carson. Mazzara noted that, at the Wicked premiere, Carson wore a beautiful green dress and, “when I saw her dress I knew I wanted a green dress for prom this year!”
Taking a less specific approach, Trinity Thompson ‘26 set loose regulations on her expectations for the dress when shopping.“I was looking for any color dress with an open back and a slightly tighter fit. I ended up getting a black dress that fit those requirements. ”
Dress shopping is about more than just the style or inspiration; where a girl buys her dress is also a vital component. The convenience of online shopping offers a quick and easy method for selecting a dress. Thompson bought her dress off of OhPolly, a popular site with a variety of options.
However, the lack of reliability of online shopping makes some girls unsure about it. Thankfully for Thompson “when the dress arrived, I didn’t have to return it and order a different dress.”
Mazzara preferred the opposite. “I have always preferred buying my dresses in person because I like to try them on.” Mazzara continued, “I went in, got a bunch to try on, but the dress I ended up getting was the first one I tried on!”
All in all, spring is an exciting time for junior and senior girls at Bishop Gorman, and prom dress shopping only amplifies the feeling.
