On April 2 the Bishop Gorman’s women’s lacrosse team celebrated their 2025 senior night. This night commemorated seven players: Ava Smith ’25, Gianna Nakhle ’25, Isabella Iway ’25, Brianna Bolino ’25, Jasmyn Hill ’25, Angelina Codey ’25, and Eleana Locatelli ’25, as well as four team managers Daria Proper ’25, Taylor Chapman ’25, Megrit Mediana ’25, and Rylee Park ’25.

The night took off with a ceremony to acknowledge and celebrate the accomplishments of the graduating seniors. During the ceremony, the seniors and their parents walked down the field as underclassmen teammates delivered speeches reflecting on the senior’s time at Gorman. Each senior received a rose and gift from the coaches.
“It was a huge honor to be recognized for senior night. Getting to walk down with my parents and have my hard work recognized was really nice. I felt happy, but also a little sad to think that I was graduating,” stated Smith.
Graduating and leaving the team behind is hard for many of the girls, especially those whose lives have been changed from it. “For me, this sport just started off as any other thing in my life. I started playing in my junior year and honestly, it felt like a chore. However, over time, lacrosse started to grow on me…Suddenly, lacrosse became a part of my life and I loved it. It has shaped my high school experience by giving me opportunities for life-long friendships as well as opened the door for college,” Iway shared.
The lacrosse community at Gorman has made a huge difference in Iway’s life, and she’s not the only one. Each girl holds a story on the impact of the team.
Nahkle has been on the varsity team since freshman year, and describes it as a second family to her. “I have really grown up with a lot of my teammates and my coaches. This team has made my high school experience way better than it would’ve been.”

Luckily for the girls though, the experience isn’t over yet because unlike most seniors nights this isn’t their last home game. In fact, it’s only the middle of the season for the team. “At first I thought senior night being in the middle of the season was a little strange, because I was used to it being towards the end, but once the night actually happened I realized that I was glad it was in the middle because it meant we still had half a season with the team and we can still play,” Bolino stated.
Instead of senior night being an emotional parting, it was a fun game in which the team won 10-7 against Coronado High School. “Senior night was unreal. There was a full crowd, and so many people showed up to support me. Every time anyone would make a goal, get the draw, or make a defensive save, the crowd went wild. The night was just so perfect and I couldn’t have asked for a better night,” Nakhle stated.
