Part of what makes Bishop Gorman so great is the teachers on campus who work hard to help students strive for success.
Spanish teacher Mrs. Itzia Barron, were inspired to teach from teachers they had when they were in school.
“The first person that inspired me to become a teacher was my high school science teacher. She was very confident, hands-on, and loving towards her students.” She was also inspired by famous female scientist Rosalin Franklin, “she was a scientist who discovered the structure of DNA, but her work was stolen by a man. She fought for her place and was very smart.” These role models inspired her to teach science and Spanish.
Today, Mrs. Barron inspires her students in her Spanish classes. A student from Mrs. Barron’s class, Francesca Calencea ’27, states that Mrs. Barron is her favorite teacher because, “I admire Mrs. Barron’s kindness and her attention to everybody in the class. She is also patient, which I love.” She is her biggest inspiration and admires her teaching.
Another teacher at Bishop Gorman, Mrs. Feely has taught many students about empowerment. She teaches multiple art classes at Bishop Gorman. She got her inspiration from many women, but it is her mom who inspired her to become a teacher.
“My mom was an elementary educator for thirty plus years. Being her daughter, singing, teaching and running a household inspired me.”
