As spring approaches, Bishop Gorman’s golf team tees off into an exciting new season. This team is full of new and amazing talent as well as returning talent.
Coming into this season, the team lost the state championship last year. Gabe Garcia ‘25 said, “we had a heartbreaking one shot loss at the state championship.”
This year, Gorman is looking to complete the goal they set for last year. Garcia added that, “it was almost a blessing in disguise because it gave us the motivation to win this season.”
The first league match of the season was a win against Desert Oasis, Faith Lutheran, Palo Verde and Liberty. The second match ended in a tie with Desert Oasis which makes Bishop Gorman first in the league and a strong start to the season on the road to regionals.
The team is looking good this year. Many players are excited with the start of the season. Underclassmen Benny Nelson ‘28 said, “we’re pretty confident we already have a good team, practices are looking good, and we won by 12 shots in our first match.”
With hopes for the season at an all time high, another underclassmen Nicholas Lindhold ‘28 said, “the team is in a pretty good place and has lots of potential.” With the players returning from last season combined with the new players this year combine to be a promising team for Gorman.
Next up, men’s golf will participate in the Southern Nevada Invitational at Anthem CC on March 24th and 25th, which is one of the biggest tournaments for high school golf in Southern Nevada.
