Siddhant Kumar ‘25 will represent Bishop Gorman High School at the New Balance Indoor Track meet in Boston, MA on Mar. 13.
The New Balance Indoor Grand Prix is a premier track and field event that has been part of the World Athletics Indoor Tour since 1984, which includes a series of high-level indoor events that attract some of the world’s top athletes. This event gives top high school athletes the opportunity to showcase their talents.
When Kumar was asked about participating in the event he said, “My goals for the track meet is to place pretty well, if i can be top five in nationals and top five in the country for it that would be pretty smooth.”
Kumar has many goals and expectations for the event, “If I can run close to low 21’s in the 200’s that results in 20 point something, and that would probably get me close to being one of the fastest kids in New Balance.” Additionally Kumar said, “For the 60’s.. if I can run a 6-7 in the 60’s I’d be happy with that.”
Being the only student at Gorman to represent the Gaels track team in the New Balance indoor track meet Kumar stated, “I feel honored, it’s a big thing to make it to that meet, which I’ve been trying to go to for a couple years.”
The New Balance track meet is a hard event to get invited to because of the high qualification standards required. Training to be one of the fastest in the country is no easy feat; in fact, the acceptance rate ranges from 5-20% percent.
“I worked my whole high school career for this, I’ve trained every single day at 4 am or after school, even after school I’m doing yoga I’m doing everything I can to make sure my body is at the best it could possibly be,” said Kumar.
