As the spring season kicks off, the Bishop Gorman varsity open women’s lacrosse team is ready for their intense and challenging competitions exclusively against varsity squads.
Varsity open is different from varsity; essentially, there is a JV team playing against varsity squads due to the lack of JV high school women’s lacrosse teams in Las Vegas.Despite this challenge, the Gaels are determined to make the most of the season, using each game as a learning experience and opportunity to develop as a team. Players are aware they are going to have to overcome many obstacles this season.
“I expect some rough patches as some of us are just starting to learn the game. I’m definitely excited to play teams at a higher level,” commented Jenelle Trujillo ‘26.
With a season full of tough matchups ahead, the Gaels are embracing the opportunity to grow and push their limits on the field by improving their skills, building team chemistry, and proving themselves against more experienced opponents.
The overall goal is not just to compete, but to acquire a love for lacrosse that will continue to grow throughout the season. “I feel confident that we can grow as a team and gain confidence throughout the season. Even if it’s an anxiety inducing situation it’s really cool to be starting off at such a high level,” expressed Daphne Gregory ‘26.
“The main goal for this team is to maintain a positive mindset. Even if we lose I think it’s important for us to recognize we tried our best and that we can only improve,” stated Olivia Palazzolo ’27.
While it’s an unusual situation for any team to be in, the girls on this team are evidently ready to make the most of it.
