Bishop Gorman kicked off its famous Winter Week on Feb.10, with students embracing this year’s theme “Rivalry” by dressing up to the assigned dress-up days and showing off their school spirit.
Winter Week has been an ongoing tradition at Bishop Gorman, every year there is a new theme to get students and faculty together and express school spirit. Last year’s theme was Nintendo, and now this year’s theme is centered around rivalry. The first day starts as one of the biggest rivalries: Nike vs Adidas.
The first day of Winter Week came in hot surrounding one of the biggest rivalries, Nike vs. Adidas. “I think that Nike Vs. Adidas was a great way to show love and appreciation to the companies we wear but also gave a sense of competitiveness for the day,” Gavin Briseno ‘25 said. Winter Week provides students with an opportunity to connect with one another and get a break from wearing their uniforms, and embrace the excitement of this year’s theme. Current ASG member Victoria Offley ‘26 said, “Students should participate in winter week because it is giving students a week where they can just be free and not have their uniform, but also a week where you can have enjoyment.”
The following day was a Beach vs. Blizzard dress-up day, where students, faculty, and staff dressed up in outfits that represented either the warmth of the beach or the chill of a blizzard. During “Winter Week” the dress up days are made to set a rivalry between the grades making the best grade win. “I saw people dressing up in floaties and different clothes and it was super fun to see people get into the school spirit,” Angela Khayat ‘27 said.

When ASG was coming up with dress-up day ideas the theme of Night In or Night Out came to mind and they envisioned Night Out attire would be full of ball gowns and tuxedos. But two Gorman juniors took this theme to the next level and pulled up to school with a country themed outfit.“Any opportunity I get I will dress up, I like western themed things and that is my motivation to wear my outfits,’’ Luke Basson ‘26 said.
On Thursday, the fourth day of Winter Week, students and staff dressed to the theme of BBQ Dads V. Soccer Moms. In a rivalry between two stereotypes of parents, Bishop Gorman’s halls were full of Lululemon Define Jackets, cheesy aprons, and more. “My favorite thing I’ve seen so far is a girl who put a pillow on her stomach to make herself have a ‘dad bod’,” Teagan Sacco ‘28 said. “It’s really fun to see the outfits people come up with.”
Today sparks love and joy as today is Valentines Day. For the dress up theme today, the juniors and seniors are wearing pink and the Freshman and sophomores are wearing red to keep it festive. Sutton Stoft ‘25 said, “For Valentine’s Day, ASG wanted the school to really spread the love. So, we told the seniors and sophomores to wear red, and the freshmen and juniors to wear pink. So far, there’s been a lot of participation, so the assembly is going to look amazing!! What a great way to kick off Valentine’s Day!”
