The Bishop Gorman Men’s Lacrosse team is addicted and hungry for another state championship. During their 23-24 season, the team were Nevada 5A State Champions with a senior starting lineup. With the upcoming 24-25 season, the team has a fresh new set of faces the returning starters are whipping into shape.
“We’ve all been the younger guys on the team and we just want to make sure they are comfortable with their sticks and they are comfortable playing on that higher level than they are used to,” said Merek Mastrov ‘26. The seniors plan to step up and show the ropes to the underclassmen. By working on their stick skills and building team chemistry both on and off the field, the team plans to go for the back to back state championship.
“We set that standard last year and that’s our standard every year,” said Beau LaVoie ‘26. LaVoie described how last year’s seniors were a big part of the team and by losing them, the team lost “almost their entire starting lineup.”
With the fresh new set of faces the Gaels have been not only dominating their league, but California. The team went 2-3 in the 2025 Air Station Shootout in Irvine, CA and won their home opener against Higley high school (AZ) 15-8. Last year’s success is being “implemented into this year’s success.” Mastrov stated that the offense has been working a lot on their stick skills, shooting outside of practice, and shot placement while the defense worked on communication and teamwork. Even though they are a younger team, “our age doesn’t matter because a lot of our guys who have taken the weight on the team are younger,” said LaVoie.
“The tone was set last year and is raised this year and now that we know what winning feels like we are hungry,” said Zachary Coneh ‘26.
