Bishop Gorman’s Dance Team has stepped into the spotlight. Between being in the middle of their second competition season, performing at different events around campus, and having endless practices, the team has made a name for themselves throughout the valley.
With the help of Head Coach Dr. Tessa Rivera and Choreographer Ashton Gammarano, the Bishop Gorman Dance Team has been showing school spirit at Bishop Gorman since 2019. The team’s season runs from August to June, during which they can be found at service projects, sporting events, assemblies, competitions, and kids camps.
After the team was finalized in the early months of the school year, the girls got straight to practice. Freshman Grace Peralta ‘28 explained how the team practices two hours weekly, with occasional extra practices during busy times of the year. “We always want a positive outcome for everything that we do as a team, whether that be a performance or a competition,” Peralta ‘28 said, “That keeps us really motivated to keep going during hard practices.”

Last year, during their 2023-2024 season, the Dance Team entered the competition world for the first time. After bringing home a championship title at their first ever regional competition, the girls bounced back a year later with more experience, more practice, and even more talent, hungry for more. “We were undefeated until our last competition of the season, where we lost to Desert Oasis by less than half of a point,” Co-Captain Alexis Mayer ‘27 said. “We didn’t let the loss affect us as a team, instead we celebrated our first-place win at the previous competition and pushed ourselves to work even harder.”
When asked what their favorite part of being part of Bishop Gorman’s dance team was, both Peralta ‘28 and Mayer ‘27 didn’t hesitate to bring up the camaraderie between members. “We’re such a close-knit group and you really can’t find that everywhere,” Mayer ‘27 said. “That support is what makes the team, and it feels great to be a part of.”
The Dance Team has started to make their mark on the dance world, and members cannot wait to see how much the team grows. “We work so hard to represent our school, and there’s so much more to come,” Peralta ‘28 said.
