Varsity started strong at the the 2025 Iron Town Dual wrestling tournament with a 6-2 winning record, along with Maddox Freking on the JV team coming out and winning the whole tournament going undefeated.
Although undefeated in the Town Iron Duals Elijah Tabasa’25 said “We have been meeting with a mindset coach (mindset mike program) and increasing our technique”, and he stated that he physically prepares “through our warmups to get the team’s blood pumping.” Tabasa’25 often practices are an “intense environment where everybody is trying to improve.” Tabasa’25 “plans to continue to improve through technique and wrestle hard.”
Also placing first Brock Bonkovich 25 said, “ I think I performed pretty good, I went 8-0 best I could do,” Bonkavich stated that, “During the match-ups, I would say I was ready to go out there and dominate, I wasn’t really scared of anyone.” During a possible disadvantage Bonkavich said, “I prepare myself mentally and physically, and if I had the disadvantage I would try my hardest”.
Throughout the tournament Bonkavich said, “ I wasn’t sprawling, opponents shooting at you and you got out of the way to avoid it, I feel I was a little too slow on that.” To avoid these mistakes he intends to “get better reaction time” when his opponents start to sprawl, possibly giving his opponent “a point or two.” Also to better his game Bonkavich says, “I need to be mentally focused and don’t run out of breath, and,” with efficiency Bonkavich’25 tries to “stay hydrated and be more energized.”
Committing to Landers University Mir’25 also goes undefeated in all of his match-ups. Mir’25 said “I worked on my moves that he’s been working on a lot more, I’ve been stuck to one move for a while, my bread and better. I was able to work on those while I was there.” To keep a consistent morale Mir’25 tries “finding things exciting to do and think about.” Additionally, to improve by himself Mir’25 said “I work on my pillars and I can grade myself on that, as long as I work on my pillars and strategies, it allows me to not worry about the stress of winning and losing.”
During a disadvantage Mir’25 said “people have very different body types, different styles of wrestling, a very hard body type to wrestle against someone who’s extremely tall, long, it gives them some advantages with leverage.” However “ there are also some advantages for me [Mir ‘25] and things that I can do, and just different strategies and game plans on my standups and different offense I’m going to use, and different setups to get to that.”
While our varsity went 6-2 winning almost every game and also keeping the always improving mindset,Maddox Freking’26 went 5-0 winning the JV tournament.
When Freking’26 goes into the tournament with a disadvantage he keeps the same mindset stating that “Everybody is human, and can be broken, no matter how big.
