JV Basketball Holding Down the Fort
On Jan. 27 the Bishop Gorman JV girls basketball team took on Arbor View at their house, beating them 66-26. This game had three major contributors Mackenzie Motzny ‘26, Analisa Cannizzaro ‘27, and Sophia Tevebaugh ‘28.
Motzny has been contributing an average of 12 points and 10 rebounds every game. These stats helped lead the team from 20 to 30 point leads in almost every game. With this type of contribution comes a lot of responsibility to be a leader.
“I contribute energy and guidance to the team because sometimes we get lost and I try to direct us back to what we are trying to do”, Motzny ‘26.

In the last two games against Arbor View High School and Palo Verde High School, Cannizzaro ‘27, has been averaging 17 points per game. In the previous game against Centennial Analisa scored nine points.
Cannizzaro ‘27 and Motzny ‘26 have been the ultimate post and guard duo. Together they have been helping guide their team to victory no matter how tough the match.
But just like every team, they have been struggling and this loss was the hardest one of the season with a score of 36-43, they have a redemption game on Jan. 29 against Desert Pines.
“This is my best season so far. I’ve done really well and grown more as a player. I also have good relationships with my teammates”.
On Jan. 29, the JV girls took on Desert Pines and redeemed themselves, destroying Jaguars with a final score of 53-42.
Sophia Tevebaugh 28’ hasn’t put many points on the board but has been very destructive on the defensive end. Tevebaugh ‘27 has been putting in work on the defensive end by getting an average of seven steals each game. Tevebaugh ‘28 is always the loudest voice on the court making sure that her team is always motivated to finish the game and get a win.
“As a team I feel that our communication on the court and sportsmanship really lets us work together and win”, Tevebaugh ‘28.
On Jan. 31, the JV girls will take on Liberty High School. This will be one of the toughest match-ups they will face.
