The members of the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) club are gathering together during the 2025 school year at Bishop Gorman to create a group of students who are interested in helping others and meeting other students with similar or different backgrounds.
The AAPI club started with a purpose which was to build a community here on campus for students to have their own space to share their cultural backgrounds. “There is a large Asian population at Bishop Gorman, so we wanted to have a more inclusive space for everyone, because there’s a black student union and other things like that. We wanted to give a place for not just Asian’s, but all people of culture to come and have a place to celebrate where they originate,” said AAPI founder Cade Seitman ‘26.
The AAPI club organizes many activities to keep all members involved with the club and team building activities. “The club I found most meaningful was when we worked with SWAN to help with a food drive,” said AAPI member Aikus Chadha ‘27. They have many upcoming activities coming soon, “We have one coming up from Lunar New Year. It is this Thursday, and I think it’s going to be very fun and allow everyone to celebrate their new year,” said AAPI member Elle Seitman ‘27.
“The AAPI club is a fun place to just hang out with my friends and get to know different cultures,” said AAPI member Anna Kim ‘26. The AAPI club is a good way to meet different people, “ I think that it;s fun and it’s a good way to meet others similar to you and connect with them,” said Seitman ‘27.
AAPI also has taught many of the founders about leadership, “As a founder, I would say a leadership style I’ve taken on this was letting others give their ideas and criticizing it and seeing what we can improve on. I don’t want to boss them around, I want to have a sense of freedom where they can do what they want. So, I have a pretty lenient leadership style, but if something is going wrong, then I’ll step in,” said Seitman ‘26.
