On January 25th, Bishop Gorman ASG recently took their leadership skills to the next level by attending the Zone Leadership Conference at Sierra Vista High School where they joined schools from across the city to engage in workshops, team-building activities, and discussions on effective leadership skills.
One of the key takeaways from the conference was the importance of being able to lead with the right empathy and collaboration. The entire idea of this was reinforced through several different activities and workshops designed to strengthen communication and teamwork skills among student government leaders.
Aubrianna Beechum ‘26 said, “I learned that a positive mindset can change the outcome of a situation. we aren’t always given the perfect case scenario, so we need to give our best efforts into the end result.”
Additionally, The Zone Conference emphasized the power of determination in leadership. Guest speaker, Lilyan Prada-Carrillo, spoke to all the students and gave a powerful story that encouraged them to “not let anyone tell them what they can and can’t do, and as you reach up the ladder, reach down to help others below you to give back.”
As the students went on with their day, they engaged in different presentations and activities that allowed them to exchange ideas with other student leaders on skills to bring back to ASG.
Beechum stated, “I plan to apply what I learned about delegation into my role in ASG. I learned how important it is to not over control and have trust in your council.”
By the end of the conference, Bishop Gorman’s student government was able to walk away with some valuable insights and a new sense of purpose in Student Council. With fresh ideas and new friendships, they are ready to bring their new ideas and skills back to the school.
Aj Mazzara ‘27 said, “Zone is a great opportunity to bond with other ASG members and to learn new information from other schools to help out on campus.”
