One of the best aspects of the holiday season is feeling the festive spirit. The endless green and red decorations, Santa hats, and Christmas sweaters put everyone in a good mood.
Every year, Bishop Gorman’s Associated Student Government, ASG, takes a trip to the St. Viator Catholic School to help celebrate the joy of the holidays. They welcome the kindergarten class to come party with the high schoolers. The Student Council students lead several fun activities that allow the kids to feel some holiday spirit. For example, this year, the stations were decorating stockings, coloring Christmas pictures, making crowns, crafting ornaments, and other exciting events that the ASG students and the kids work on together.
This tradition has been going on for several years now, and Mr. Gleich, the Bishop Gorman Activities Director, has known the principal of St. Viator, Ms. Kiss, for a long time. He feels that the entirety of this event is to not only benefit the children, but us as student leaders.
“The reason we do this is to teach ASG leadership qualities they may not have at Gorman, things like patience and being able to thrive in different environments,” said Gleich.
It is important for the students in ASG to learn that being a leader can be seen in different ways and shown in their actions, which can be shown with their ways of handling the kids. Not only was it an important learning experience, but it was also a fun time for being able to feel the Christmas Spirit.
“Although it was a great time, it also got a little chaotic with all the little kids running around,” said Samantha Braun ‘26.
