The crochet club is a new club on campus open to all students. Two freshmen sisters , Amelia and Isabelle Giger, started the club and there are about 50 members who meet weekly on Thursdays. English teacher Ms. Desio said, “Amelia and Isabelle Giger wanted to start a crochet club and their father Mr. Giger asked me to help them start one and turns out a lot of people wanted to join.”
The art of crochet is the process of creating textiles by interlacing loops of yarn or thread with a crochet hook. The word “crochet” comes from the French word for “hook”.The projects in crochet club are simple; starting with a bracelet or anklet and working towards more complicated projects. Many people have made friends and learned from each other from this club. Freshman Myah Becerra-Malone said “I learned how to make chains and make a bracelet since joining the club.”
The club’s overall goal is to make art for family members or the community. They do not plan to sell any of the things they make, but they are working with the campus ministry to find places to donate to as the weather gets colder.
Students do not need any prior experience to join the club. There are YouTube tutorials and Mrs. Desio teaches members how to master certain skills if they need help. “Students can stop by room 502 on Thursdays after school and a hook and yarn will be provided,” stated Ms. Desio.
