The soccer season ended in despair this season, still with some hope for the next season, while saying goodbye to some seniors and growing as a team. While Gorman saw a first round exit in the playoffs they look forward to new players coming up and young talent making its way to Varsity.
“I am excited to see the new kids stepping up filling in the roles that the seniors this year were filling,” said Chase Stewart ‘26.
Seniors enjoyed their last season but were sad that the memories were coming to an end. Some look forward to playing in college and becoming professional and see a lot of possibilities after high school.
“I see myself playing professionally, and if not going to college to play, then going pro after that” Maddix Bordinhao ‘25. The dream for any young player is to go professional but very few even get the chance to make it that far. Bordinhao is one of the fastest and most talented players on the team, and with the club season ahead there are still a lot more opportunities to be seen and picked up. Gorman will miss his skill down the wing but they are looking for the replacement which they might have found this season.
Though he is leaving, he gave some insight on which rising senior will be an asset to the team next season. “I believe Hector Miranda (‘26) is stepping up. He is a really good player, and by next year he could be a really great player,” said Bordinhao.
New talent coming onto the team is what will hold the team together going into next year. JV players moving up and players on varsity maturing quickly, and that will help improve the team. Miranda took over in Bordinhao’s position when he got injured. His flare and skill was seen and he became a regular for that position when Maddix was injured.
One returning player, Franco Aniya ‘28, was the only freshman on the team this season. He is another rising talent on the team that had an impressive season. He controlled the ball with confidence and was quick and smart on the field. Going into next season he will be a big part of the team’s midfield. With an amazing start to his highschool career, he is projected to get better and surpass expectations.
With the hardest season underway, it is important for the players to look back on the season, reflecting on what went well, and improving what went wrong. Hopefully, doing so will carry the team to being the state champions next season.
