This Tuesday Nov. 12, the 2024 National Honor Society induction ceremony was held in the main gym at 6pm. Bishop Gorman students were inducted into their respective honor societies of the 15 that are offered at the school.
To be chosen for the National Honor Society, students must be juniors or seniors who maintain a 3.75 GPA. Other honor societies have different requirements, and some come with additional service hour requirements.
The ceremony itself was an amazing way to showcase the incoming members who have strived to achieve this goal. Simar Jolly ‘26, who is in loved in National Honor Society, Computer Science Honor Society, and National Forensic League, which she is president of due to her spot in Speech and Debate Club, said, “I think the induction ceremony is a great thing the school does to celebrate our achievements.”
Much hard work goes into attaining a spot in the National Honor Society. As Andrew Barton ‘26, who was inducted into National Honor Society, National French Honor Society Science National Honor Society, and, and MU Alpha Theta Honor Society, said, “[Being inducted] is very special to me because I know that my dedication to my studies has helped me be honored with induction into multiple National Honor Societies.”
There are also many leadership opportunities across the different National Honor Societies. Avery Rulis ‘26, who was inducted into National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, and National French Honor Society, has already been involved in National Art Honor Society. This year, she was given the honor of being named the vice president of National Art Honor Society, and is hoping to find future leadership positions in other Honor Societies she is involved in. “I am also hoping to take up a leadership position in the French National Honor Society because… French culture is something I am very captivated by and passionate about.”
While it is important to recognize the amount of work someone has put in to be able to be eligible for National Honor Society, it is important to be thankful for the honor that comes with it. Zachary Lawless ‘26, member of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Computer Science Honor Society said, “I feel honored to be selected for the societies and I feel grateful for the numerous opportunities granted by membership of the honor societies.”
